Executive Vice President and Deputy Laboratories Director, Sandia National Laboratories
Dr. Joan Woodard is Executive Vice President and Deputy Laboratories Director for the Nuclear Weapons Program at Sandia National Laboratories, which includes oversight of engineering support and design to the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile. Dr. Joan also chairs the Laboratories’ management council for Nuclear Weapons. Previously, Joan served as the Executive Vice President and Deputy Director for the Lab. Prior to that, Joan was Vice President of the Energy Information and Infrastructure Technology Division. Joan currently serves on the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, the Congressional Commission to Assess the Vulnerabilities of the US Infrastructure to Electromagnetic Pulse, and the Defense Science Board (DSB) Task Force on Nuclear Capabilities. She has served as a study group member for the DSB study on Homeland Security; and as co-chair of the special study of the National Security Space Program for the DoD and CIA. She also served on the National Academy Study on S&T for Countering Terrorism. Joan is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, the New Mexico Women’s Forum, a member of the University of Missouri-Rolla Dean’s Engineering Advisory Board, Board of Trustees and Energy Center Advisory Council; a member of the Kirtland Honorary Commanders Advisory Council; and a member of the Family Security Group Board of Advisors Center for Security Policy. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Bosque School and also serves as a corporate director for PNM Resources, Inc. (NYSE). Joan has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley; an M.S. from Stanford University, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Rolla. |
